Let's get active!!

Take a look at Ms Carty’s class using the ‘Go Noodle’ website. We choose different videos and exercises to follow each day.

It keeps us fit and gives our brains a little break between our different subjects.

Lots of classes in the school use Go Noodle to keep active.

Try it at home with your family and friends!

Meet our Active School Committee!

Students from all classes have come together to form our Active School committee. The members meet each week and then pass on tips and advice to their class around ways of keeping healthy & active. They are also doing a fantastic job encouraging their classmates to travel to school by foot/bike/park&stride and collecting the weekly CoW and WoW numbers. All the students are doing great work in helping Scoil Maelruain to stay active and healthy – keep up the good work! committee

Scoil Maelruain Stays Active!

Students and teachers are all continuing to keep active at Scoil Maelruain Snr. During lunch time, Mr Broderick has organised Cross Country runs for the senior classes in the pitch across the road from the school. After some stretches and a warm-up, children complete a run around a course that is gradually increasing each week! Some members of 6th class have been working to help the junior classes with their skipping activities during lunch time. They take the time to spin the big ropes so that a large group of children can play a skipping game at a time! Wednesday is COW&WOW so try make an effort to travel at least part of the way to school on foot/bike/scooter. Remember to keep bringing in healthy lunches to school and try to be active for at least 30 mins every day. Thanks to all the teachers and students involved for their help, Keep Active!!

Active School Flag

Scoil Maelruain Senior is currently working towards achieving Active Schools Flag status. The Active School Flag was launched by the Department of Education and is a non-competitive initiative that encourages schools to evaluate their current provision of P.E. and extracurricular sports to children and to examine whether they can be improved upon. We want to raise awareness about the importance of enjoyment, play and keeping fit and the Active Flags initiative helps us to do this.

Preparation for obtaining the Flag has already started with representatives from each class coming together with teachers to form a committee that is looking at new ways of to encourage all pupils to be more active. Check out the pictures from our committee meeting and first Active Flag lunch time activity which shows 3rd class students taking part in lunchtime “Station Fun”.

Keep a close eye on the school website to check out all the new activities and initiatives that will be coming up over the next few weeks.

Please take a look at the website www.activeschoolflag.ie to find out more about the Active School Flag.
