Ms Carty’s 3rd class would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for their generous donations on Wednesday in aid of Barretstown.
We were delighted to raise €406.81 and we were able to present the money to Barretstown when they came to treat us to an afternoon of fun and games on Wednesday. We would also like to thank our classmate, Keelin Galvin and her family, for helping to organise the visit from Barretstown.
As we were all wearing our Ireland gear, we joined forces with Ms Flood’s 5th class to record our version of the FAI Euros song ‘Hear the Irish Roar’.

COME ON YOU BOYS IN GREEN!!!
Students in 3rd and 4th classes have been enjoying some very active mornings for the last few weeks with some fun activities taking place in the Halla before the school day starts. 3rd class children have been attending weekly “Be Active – Fun Fitness” sessions. With the help of some volunteer parents and teachers, the children complete circuits of fun, active stations. Morning badminton is also taking place with many children from 4th class coming to school early on Tuesday and Thursdays to enjoy a game- check it out for a fun, active start to your day! Thanks to all the parents and teachers involved.
The Active Week prize giving ceremony was held on the last day of Active Week. All teachers chose someone from their class to win a “Active Sportsperson” cup in recognition of their participation and sporting qualities during the week. The winners of the art competition were also announced with the overall prize awarded to Robyn Gillespie for her fantastic Scoil Maelruain Active Flag design. Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all the teachers, parents and students for helping out during the week.
25th – 29th April was a very busy week as it was Active Week in Scoil Maelruain Senior. During the week we had lots of special visitors from various sports organisations including Basketball Ireland, Cricket Lenister and Tallaght Martial Arts. All children got the opportunity to take part in a variety of new activities and also listen to a talk on healthy eating. There were different morning activities every day before school so everyone had an active start to their day! A big thank you to all the teachers, students and parents who helped make Active Week a huge success this year!
Ms Flood’s clas attended an Eco week event in Tallaght Library.
The Mad Professor introduced science in a fun way. The professor took us through various energy sources and principals using everyday items. We got to see how energy and electricity function. We also got a chance to send electricity through our bodies (without lasting effects) and we made a human circuit. It was great fun!
Scoil Maelruain has celebrated the 1916 one hundred year anniversary by performing an amazing re-enactment of those historic events. We were very fortunate to have been chosen by TV3 to record and televise our celebration. This also involved the raising of the tri-colour, singing Amhrán na bhFiann and the reading of the Proclamation. Some of the students also read out their own Proclamations. Well done to all involved and a big thank you to the hard work by Ms Mc Evoy and Ciara our drama teacher.
Take a look at Ms Carty’s class using the ‘Go Noodle’ website. We choose different videos and exercises to follow each day.
It keeps us fit and gives our brains a little break between our different subjects.
Lots of classes in the school use Go Noodle to keep active.
Try it at home with your family and friends!
