Songwriting workshop

In February 25 choir members took part in a Songwriting workshop with Kenn from Craftzone. They wrote their own song and recorded it using special software and equipment. The song is called The Maelers Song and they even recorded a video to go with the song. Below you can see some photos of the workshop, some of our talented members even made up dance moves to go along with the song. We hope to have a link to the video and song up on the website soon.

Mr Corcoran’s Retirement Concert

Here are some more photos of the wonderful celebration we had for Mr Corcoran on his last day in Scoil Maelruain Senior on February 29th.You can make out some of the great portraits and pictures of Mr Corcoran that decorated the hall, including the life size 3D Mr Corcoran made by Ms Carty’s class. Although it was a sad day we all enjoyed the celebrations. Wishing you a very happy retirement Mr Corcoran.

Incredible Edibles come to Scoil Maelruain!

[[Show as slideshow]]Students from Ms Biesty’s 5th class and Mr Fitzgerald’s 6th class have taken up the Incredible Edibles challenge to grow lettuce, turnips, potatoes, carrots and strawberries in the school. So far we have planted the lettuce and turnip seeds in little pots and are waiting for them to germinate before replanting them in the raised bed alongside the carrots. The potatoes have their own planting bag to grow in and the strawberry plants will arrive after the Easter holidays. Fingers crossed we have some yummy fruit and vegetables to taste and cook in June!

After learning all about the Potato Famine, we took a trip into town on the Luas to visit the Famine Ship – the Jeanie Johnston- and see what life was like for the people who made the journey to Canada during the Famine times. We had a great guide who showed us around and answered all our questions. Then we went on to the Hugh Lane Gallery to look at the Francis Bacon studio and some paintings by Jack B. Yeats. Despite the bad weather we had a great day out!

March activities in Ms Carty’s class

In March our class was very busy .We went to the National Concert Hall to see music in the classroom . We all saw Tubby the tuba and there were very good dancers . The best thing about Tubby the tuba was that he got a great part in the orchestra. The best thing about the dancers was that they were amazing .

We also took photos of our selves with daffodils for our Mother’s Day photo frames.

The last thing we did in March was that we all went to see the Armagh Rhymers in Tallaght library for seachtain na Gaeilge . The best thing about the Armagh Rhymers was that they had great costumes. They also let us join in with singing and dancing. They even knew the dance we had learned in class, called Shoe the Donkey.

Good-Bye Ms Brady

Our Deputy Principal Colette Brady retired in February. Ms Brady has worked in Scoil Maelruain Senior since the late 1970s. She will be missed but we wish her a very happy and well deserved retirement. Here are some photos of her last day in school.

Check out some of the creative work finished in Ms Flood’s class lately. We did tie-dye art. Also we created futuristic cities and we made prints of them. Finally each child did a project on a town or city of their choice.
