Croke Park Final 2018

On 22nd October 2018 our girls school team made it to Croke Park for the Corn Comhair Linn Final.

When we got there we went into the dressing room and then into the green room to warm up. Then we walked up the steps and saw all our Maelruains supporters cheering and shouting our names. All our names and numbers came up on the jumbo screen. When the whistle blew we were ready to fight but after a tough match unfortunately we didn’t win. We had a great time.

Active School Morning Activities

Students in 3rd and 4th classes have been enjoying some very active mornings for the last few weeks with some fun activities taking place in the Halla before the school day starts. 3rd class children have been attending weekly “Be Active – Fun Fitness” sessions. With the help of some volunteer parents and teachers, the children complete circuits of fun, active stations. Morning badminton is also taking place with many children from 4th class coming to school early on Tuesday and Thursdays to enjoy a game- check it out for  a fun, active start to your day! Thanks to all the parents and teachers involved.

Active Week Prizegiving

The Active Week prize giving ceremony was held on the last day of Active Week. All teachers chose someone from their class to win a “Active Sportsperson” cup in recognition of their participation and sporting qualities during the week. The winners of the art competition were also announced with the overall prize awarded to Robyn Gillespie for her fantastic Scoil Maelruain Active Flag design. Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to all the teachers, parents and students for helping out during the week.

Active Week!

25th – 29th April was a very busy week as it was Active Week in Scoil Maelruain Senior. During the week we had lots of special visitors from various sports organisations including Basketball Ireland, Cricket Lenister and Tallaght Martial Arts. All children got the opportunity to take part in a variety of new activities and also listen to a talk on healthy eating. There were different morning activities every day before school so everyone had an active start to their day! A big thank you to all the teachers, students and parents who helped make Active Week a huge success this year!

Let’s get active!!

Take a look at Ms Carty’s class using the ‘Go Noodle’ website. We choose different videos and exercises to follow each day.

It keeps us fit and gives our brains a little break between our different subjects.

Lots of classes in the school use Go Noodle to keep active.

Try it at home with your family and friends!

Meet our Active School Committee!

Students from all classes have come together to form our Active School committee. The members meet each week and then pass on tips and advice to their class around ways of keeping healthy & active. They are also doing a fantastic job encouraging their classmates to travel to school by foot/bike/park&stride and collecting the weekly CoW and WoW numbers. All the students are doing great work in helping Scoil Maelruain to stay active and healthy – keep up the good work!

Scoil Maelruain Stays Active!

Students and teachers are all continuing to keep active at Scoil Maelruain Snr. During lunch time, Mr Broderick has organised Cross Country runs for the senior classes in the pitch across the road from the school. After some stretches and a warm-up, children complete a run around a course that is gradually increasing each week! Some members of 6th class have been working to help the junior classes with their skipping activities during lunch time. They take the time to spin the big ropes so that a large group of children can play a skipping game at a time! Wednesday is COW&WOW so try make an effort to travel at least part of the way to school on foot/bike/scooter. Remember to keep bringing in healthy lunches to school and try to be active for at least 30 mins every day. Thanks to all the teachers and students involved for their help, Keep Active!!
