25th – 29th April was a very busy week as it was Active Week in Scoil Maelruain Senior. During the week we had lots of special visitors from various sports organisations including Basketball Ireland, Cricket Lenister and Tallaght Martial Arts. All children got the opportunity to take part in a variety of new activities and also listen to a talk on healthy eating. There were different morning activities every day before school so everyone had an active start to their day! A big thank you to all the teachers, students and parents who helped make Active Week a huge success this year!
During the week of May 12th there were a number of special visitors to Scoil Maelruain to introduce us to new ways of staying active! Martin from Tallaght Martial Arts Club brought all the children through basic drills and martial arts positions. Dominick from Irish Flying Disc Association did workshops with 5th class children introducing them to the sport of Ultimate Frisbee. Mark from Croquet Association of Ireland showed 3rd class children croquet skills and all the children got the opportunity to take part in a game. Members of the Active Flag committee also got the chance to check out some new sports when they visited Surfdock Water Sports to try out some water sports!A big thank you to all our active visitors, we all enjoyed taking part in some new sports!
We were delighted to have the Sam Maguire in the school on Thursday November 7th. Children were decked out in the Dublin colours and some teachers also! Michael Darragh MacAuley kindly presented the trophy to the school and answered lots of questions. The excitement of having the trophy in the school was topped off with a night off homework.
We were delighted to welcome some of the winning Thomas Davis Ladies football team to our school on Monday 3rd of December. They have had an amazing year winning 4 titles in all. Congratulations to everyone on the team especially all our past pupils. A fabulous achievement.
Classes in 3rd and 4th were very lucky to get a speaker from the Dublin Zoo Outreach Programme. Pupils got to hear all about the daily routine of animals in Dublin Zoo. Children also got to touch skins and shells from lots of different animals. Check out the photos here.
We had a wonderful visit from the Midlands Travelling Theatre. The theatre group put on a fantastic play in the school hall on Monday the 3rd of October. The play was based on a tale from Russia called “The Bluebird.” There was great audience participation as well as you can see from the photos.
A big thanks to our past pupil, Ireland and Birmingham City soccer player, Keith Fahey who came to visit us recently.

We were very lucky to receive a visit from some of the players on the Ladies Dublin football team who were recently crowned All Ireland Champions. Congratulations to all the players and squad and especially to a past pupil of Scoil Maelruain Siobhan McGrath. Siobhan and her team mates Gemma Fay and Aisling Farrelly who brought the cup to show us and to speak about their training and how great it felt to win the All Ireland. Siobhan is the first pupil from the school to win an All Ireland and Siobhan has also received an All Star nomination. Here are some photos. Enjoy!
