Covid 19
This has been a very challenging year for staff, parents and children. Remote learning was a challenge for teachers, parents and children. The Board would like to acknowledge the significant efforts made by the staff to ensure that teaching and learning continued during this time. The Board would also like to commend the parents and pupils who upskilled so quickly. The Board of Management would like to thank everyone for their combined efforts in ensuring the safe and sustained reopening of the school. Never before has so much been asked of everyone and hopefully never will be again. |

School Ethos
The staff and children of Scoil Maelruain work in tandem with our Parish team to uphold our Catholic ethos. Prayer services are held regularly in the classrooms. Unfortunately, due to Covid, our sixth class students could not attend mass regularly this year. However, they did attend virtual masses. Students are looking forward to making their confirmation in July. |

Amber Flag and Active School Flag
All in Scoil Maelruain were so proud to be awarded the amber flag for the first time. This flag acknowledges the work done around promoting positive mental health.
We were also delighted to be awarded our second active school flag.
Work is underway towards getting our fifth green flag.
All flags are flying high outside the main door.
The Board would like to thank the staff and children involved in these
initiatives

Summer Works/Buildings
Board of Management has recently been in regular discussion with the Department of Education regarding the lack of progress of the proposed new school. The Board is hopeful that this project will move forward next term.
Children were busy creating lovely ‘wellness’ gardens in our courtyards this year.
Carpets are being replaced in two classrooms over the summer. |

Staffing
There are currently twenty – five teachers in Scoil Maelruain – seventeen classroom teachers and eight support teachers.
Best wishes to Ms. Kathryn Sherry and Ms. Buckley who are leaving us this year. Thank you both for sterling service to Scoil Maelruain.
Best wishes also to Joan Greene who is retiring this summer. Joan has been employed as a cleaner in the school for the past sixteen years. Joan will be sorely missed but we wish her a happy, healthy retirement. |
