School Ethos

The staff and children of Scoil Maelruain work in tandem with the parish of St. Martins to uphold our Catholic ethos. Daily prayers and regular attendance at mass with the children actively participating has deepened our partnership with Fr. Michael Hurley and the parish team. Over ninety children were confirmed by Bishop Eamonn Walsh on June 9th. Both Bishop Eamonn and Fr. Michael praised the children for their reverent behaviour. Children have also participated in a series of bible workshops which they loved.

New School

The Board of Management is in ongoing discussion with the Department of Education regarding the proposed development. The Boards of Management of the Junior and Senior schools have agreed on the design and are awaiting progress to the next stage. The Department of Education has sanctioned a new resource room for September 2017.

There are currently twenty three teachers in Scoil Maelruain Senior – sixteen mainstream teachers and seven support teachers. Ms. J. Walsh and Ms. M. Ryan and their third class students are delighted with the new classrooms.

Best wishes to Ms. Aideen Carthy who is moving to Kerry. Aideen has given sterling service to our school for the past six years. She will be sadly missed by the pupils and all the staff. Dublin’s loss will most definitely be Kerry’s gain.

Best wishes to all our sixth class students transitioning to second level.

Policy Development

The Board of Management and staff of Scoil Maelruain ratified a DataProtection Policy this year. The Critical Incident Policy was updated. Annual reviews of the Child Protection Policy and the Anti Bullying Policy were completed.

The Board of Management has concerns about the amount of children going on holidays during the academic year. This has a negative impact on children’s education. A school calendar was sent  out with report cards. Please refer to this before booking a holiday. Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.

Curricular Development

Every effort is made to ensure that each child reaches his/her full potential. The Board of Management is very happy with the progress being made in literacy and numeracy. The Board would like to thank all staff members who work so hard and give the children so many opportunities to develop their talents. Congratulations to all our athletes, G.A.A. players, basketballers, choir members and chess players who represented the school with pride.

Parents’ Association

The Board of management would like to thank the Parents’ Association for their  support and trojan work throughout the year. Children and staff benefit greatly. New speakers and microphones were purchased this year. The Confirmation breakfast and the sixth class disco were hugely successful. A big thank you also to the Lotto Committee!!!!

School reopens on August 31st
