History was made when Scoil Maelruain won the double in Croke Park on October 26th. While Scoil Maelruain has enjoyed some successes in the past in Croke Park never before have the boys and girls won on the same day. This memorable day started with the girls recording a thrilling 2 – 7 to 0 -9 victory over Mount Anville and retaining the Sciath Chomhar Linn. Every member put in a sterling performance on the day. As the girls rejoiced the boys lined out to play Scoil Mobhi. The pressure was on. At half time the boys led by one point only thanks in no small measure to a brilliant goal by Callum O’Brien who sustained an injury shortly afterwards. The second half was very tight. However the determination shown by all the Maelruain boys was incredible and they pulled away in the last few minutes to win the Corn Chumann na nGael with a final score of 1 – 10 to 9 points. There were jubilant scenes amongst all the players, teachers and supporters when the final whistle blew. There was more history in the making as the two captains Aimee Collins and Fionn Lynch are first cousins. They led the sing song back in the school. Scoil Maelruain Abu.
