School Ethos

The staff and children of Scoil Maelruain work in tandem with our Parish team to uphold our Catholic ethos. Daily prayers and regular attendance at mass with the children actively participating has deepened our partnership with  Fr. Michael.  Over seventy five  children were confirmed by Bishop Eamonn Walsh on June 10th . Both Bishop Eamonn and Fr. Michael praised the children for their reverent behaviour. The school choir sang beautifully.

Staff and pupils celebrated the Year of Mercy throughout the year.

Summer Works/Buildings

The BOM is in ongoing discussion regarding the Department’s proposed development/expansion of Scoil Maelruain.

Two prefabricated classrooms will be needed to accommodate our growing numbers.

Emergency lighting was installed in the school hall.

Staffing

There are currently twenty one teachers in Scoil Maelruain – fourteen classroom teachers and seven support teachers. Congratulations to Mr. Moore and Ms. S. Murphy who married during the year. Thanks to Ms. J.O’Reilly  who very kindly afforded Ms. Kennedy the opportunity of completing her diploma by moving into Special Ed.  for the last term.  Best wishes to our super secretary Monica O’Neill  who is leaving us for a position closer to her home. She will be greatly missed by all !!!

Policy Development

The BOM and staff of Scoil Maelruain worked on a new RSE policy which was successfully rolled out this year. The child protection and anti – bullying policy were also reviewed.

Extra Activities

The Board would like to convey its thanks to all the teachers who work so hard and give the children so many opportunities to develop their talents. Congratulations to the quiz teams, hurlers, athletes, basketballers, footballers camogie players choir members and chess players who represented the school so well. Scoil Maelruain is looking forward to raising an  Active Flag .

Centenary Celebrations

Scoil Maelruain Senior celebrated the 1916 commemoration in style. Ms. Dunning’s 104 year old great grandmother was a VIP guest when the Defence Forces presented the proclamation and flag to the school. On Proclamation Day TV3 filmed the raising of our flag and the reading of Scoil Maelruain’s  very own Proclamation.  A large group of  fifth and sixth class children then staged a marvellous play – A Triumph of Sorts telling the story of the 1916 rising. It was a memorable day for all the students and staff of Scoil Maelruain.

Parents’ Association

The BOM of Scoil Maelruain would like to thank the Parents’ Association for their tremendous support and trojan work throughout the year which benefits our pupils.   Thanks in particular for the very generous donation towards Magic of Music which was rolled out to all classes. The PA is actively seeking new members.   A big thank you also to the Lotto Committee !!!

The school will reopen on August 31
