School Ethos

The staff and children of Scoil Maelruain work in tandem with our Parish team to uphold our Catholic ethos. Daily prayers and regular attendance at mass with the children actively participating has deepened our partnership with Breda our Pastoral Worker and Fr. Brian.

Over eighty children were confirmed by Bishop Eamonn Walsh on June 6th Eamonn and Fr. Brian praised the children for their reverent behaviour. We have also run a series of Bible workshops for fifth and sixth classes which the children loved.

The BOM is in ongoing discussion regarding the Department’s proposed development/expansion of Scoil Maelruain.

Staffing

There are currently eighteen teachers in Scoil Maelruain – thirteen classroom teachers and five support teachers.
We are hoping to gain an extra support teacher for the 2014/2015 academic year. Mr. R.O’Neill who is on career break is replaced by Ms. Flynn.
Congratulations to Ms. D.O’Reilly who had a baby boy last week. Ms. O’Reilly’s maternity leave is being covered by Ms. M. Ryan.
Monica O’Neill is our school secretary.
Christine Kiernan our dear departed secretary is forever in all our thoughts and prayers.

Policy Development

The BOM and staff of Scoil Maelruain worked on a new anti-bullying policy this year. The policy may be viewed in full on our school website.
The child protection policy was also reviewed.

Extra Activites

The Board would like to thank the  teachers who work so hard and give the children so many opportunities to develop their talents.
Congratulations to the quiz teams, athletes, basketballers, footballers, hurlers, camogie players, choir members and chess players who represented the school so well.

Curricular Development

The staff and BOM of Scoil Maelruain engaged with the School Self Evaluation process last year. The focus was on literacy.

Standardised test results were analysed, teachers’ surveys were evaluated and pupils were interviewed.
All this data was then collated and used to draw up a School Improvement Plan.
The BOM would like to take this opportunity to applaud the good work being done in the area of Literacy.7

Parents’ Association

The BOM of Scoil Maelruain would like to thank the Parents’ Association for their tremendous support and trojan work throughout the year. The children and staff benefit from all their hard work.
Thanks in particular for the very generous donation towards the purchase of 16 laptops and a trolley.
A big thank you also to the Lotto Committee !!!

Ms Flood’s 3rd class school tour to Dublin Zoo!

Here is an account of our school tour my Molly Long and Niamh Nolan.

We got up and got ready by getting our bags, putting on sun cream and putting our lunches and drinks in our bags.  We got on the bus together.  It took thirty minutes and was quite a bumpy ride. On the bus everyone was singing, cheering and messing. when the bus pulled up we all leaned forward and we were at the zoo.

The zoo was a  very cheerful and colorful place. There was lots to see. The animals were well cared for. We saw strange, cheeky and beautiful animals. These animals included elephants, giraffes, rhinos, scimitar horned oryx, sea lions and ducks.

Molly’s favourite animal was the scimitar horned oryx because they are such beautiful animals. Nimah’s favourite animals were the gorillas because they were cute.

We had a great day!

Egyptians everywhere in Ms. Flood’s class!

Check out the art and projects we have done based on the Egyptians!
